Story of 1971 Mech. Engg. Batch:
It was mid of May-22 when the LDCE@75 Outreach campaign started in a structured manner. It was felt that contacting the batches prior to 1980 would be difficult. Nonetheless, the Outreach team started sending mails.
“..would it be possible to talk?..” A mail popped-up from Mr. Ashok Thakkar, Mechanical 1971 batch. A late evening call with him and subsequent discussions with a few of his classmates brought amazing stories of friendship built around LDCE.
Some amazing facts about this Class:
- More than 25 classmates are still connected through email and WhatsApp. (in 1971, Class size was 45)
- Few of them still carries memento of Friendship exchanged/gifted more than 50+ years back
- While talking with them, the Outreach team felt they were talking to the same individual, as all are having the same thought process, same affection towards LDCE and same intent of giving back to Society.
- They had celebrated a 25 years reunion with 11 classmates along with their spouse.
- They celebrated 50 years of reunion by publishing a book titled “Selected Life Stories of Class of 1971 Mechanical Engineering”.
- Book paid tribute to 8 classmates
- 39 classmates shared their latest photos
- 18 classmates wrote about their life journey and shared their life lessons. Some even confessed their mistakes in life (yes, in writing. It needs lot of courage)
Few lines from Book’s Prologue
We salute the professors and teaching and administrative staff of LDCE for developing and teaching a challenging syllabus on par with global standards and instilling a world-renowned value system in young engineering students.
We dedicate this book to the future generations of engineers and hope that these short stories will provide inspiration and guidance to the future generations of engineers.
We also dedicate this book to the late Shree Kasturbhai Lalbhai, who had the foresight to generously donate huge funds to create L D College of Engineering (LDCE) in independent India to mould generations of young Indian men and women.
Today, many of them decided to give back to LDCE by contributing for a cause. Most importantly, they are contributing as a team to celebrate their friendship, brotherhood and affection for LDCE.
Their kind gesture will be a motivating force for alumni from other batches!
